Turkey Trot 2015

An amazing 20 Tortoises turned out for the annual Boxing Day 10k in Ayr with a further three Tortoises running the 5k and a further three  brave souls (you know who you are) running both the 5k & 10k’s we had one of the highest club turnouts on the day.

Near perfect running condition’s saw some excellent times posted with four PB’s recorded, obviously beer n turkey is the perfect carb loading combination.

Jim Phillips was first Tortoise home in the 10k with a 37.33 PB followed by Matt Pearce in a PB of 38.31 with Fraser Mcphail just behind in 38.53, Rob Carroll continued his strong form in 2014 finishing with a 41.19 PB

John Allan was first Tortoise home in the 5k with a very strong 19.02 time giving him an overall 13th place from a field of 238 runners, George Mcgregor at 24.16 was the first finisher in his age group.

Xmas Club Nights Change Of Venue

Note over the Xmas and New Year break while Marr College is closed we will be meeting at THE YOUTH CLUB next to Troon railway station, first night will be TUESDAY 23RD DECEMBER AT 7PM.

When Marr College return we will move back to the school, relocating to the youth club gives us a hall to warm up & cool down in plus inside changing facilities.

Cross country 21st December

Today saw eight Tortoise’s brave the weather and head to Irvine to run I believe the 40th annual Harriers v Cyclist cross country, a run with a difference.

This race pits cyclists v runners over a 4.7 mile course, with many up-hills and strategic placing of obstacles where cyclists had to dismount plus plenty of mud to try and level the playing field, I for one would say cycling this race would be more difficult than running it, previous winners include Graeme Obree so a race not to be taken lightly.

Another wee twist is that every person entering is asked to bring a small gift up to a £5 value and at the prize giving every runner is called forward and can choose an item from all the gifts brought by the runners, some are obviously better than others and mine included a Christmas Card to ‘Angela’ so I am guessing this was her unwanted secret Santa, and to be honest I can see why !!

Runners were Gordon Dobbie, George McGregor, Caroline Mutch, Ann Noble, Darrell Dunscombe, Graeme Mckenzie, Ian Mcnee and Jim Phillips, results will be posted on the results page once they are available.
